Ricky Martin thought homosexuality was "evil"

Ricky Martin has talked about his belief that homosexuality was "evil", as he battled with himself over his sexuality.

The Puerto Rican pop singer and actor came out in 2010 after years of speculation over his sexuality.

Speaking on The Jay Leno Show, Martin, who in August 2008 became the father of twin boys, revealed the pressures of being a gay pop star. "I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn't say that I was gay. It was a struggle," he said. "Being Ricky Martin back then and what I was feeling were not compatible."

The Latino singer said that his fears were not just about the commercial risks of coming out. "What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind, was evil," he said.

Things have changed for the star, however. "I'm very lucky today that what I have in my mind is love and I'm very happy."
