Sepp Blatter's half hearted apology for Qatar gay comment

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has issued a pretty unconvincing apology for saying gay fans should "refrain from sexual activity" if they go to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He said: "It was not my intention and never will be my intention to go into any discrimination. "If somebody feels hurt, then I regret [it] and present apologies." Hardly the most sincere apology of all time. As former British basketball star John Amaechi - who is one of the world's most high-profile gay athletes - said, the original comment very childish. We can see the plus side of hosting events like this in new frontiers and actually we hope it will mean that Qatar will open up more generally. But that won't be helped with Blatter in charge. Let's get someone a bit more sensible to lead the way.
